Before you apply for Special Consideration, it’s important to understand what’s required so your application can be reviewed quickly and correctly. This support is available to students who experience compassionate, compelling, or extenuating circumstances that affect their ability to complete an assessment. To make sure your request is considered, review the requirements, eligibility criteria, and prepare valid supporting evidence to help your application be assessed efficiently under Ikon’s Assessment Policy.
Who can apply
You may be eligible for Special Consideration if unexpected or serious circumstances affect your ability to complete an assessment or perform at your usual standard.
Examples include illness, injury, bereavement, or personal situations beyond your control.
What to check before you apply
Keep these points in mind before submitting your application:
- Submit your request on or before the assessment due date or time.
- Clearly explain how your situation meets the eligibility criteria in the Assessment Policy.
- You must make a genuine attempt at all assessment tasks to pass your subject.
- Applied Learning Tasks can’t be extended, as they must be completed during class.
- Include all required supporting documents — incomplete applications cannot be assessed.
- Late applications are only accepted in exceptional cases and must include an explanation for the delay.
What counts as evidence
Your evidence should show what happened, when it happened, and how it affected your ability to study. You can learn more here:
All information you provide is handled confidentially and in line with Ikon’s Privacy and Assessment Policies.
If your situation is ongoing
Students facing long-term or recurring challenges may benefit more from a Reasonable Adjustment, which provides flexible study arrangements and ongoing support. You can read more about this policy here: Reasonable Adjustment Policy.
