Missed an Assessment or Need More Time? Special Consideration Guide

If unexpected circumstances affect your ability to complete or submit an assessment, you may be able to apply for Special Consideration. This process allows Ikon to review situations such as illness, emergencies, or compassionate circumstances that prevent you from meeting assessment deadlines. Extensions are not issued directly. Instead, students must submit a Special Consideration application with supporting evidence. This page explains when Special Consideration may apply and where to find guidance on preparing and submitting your application.

What Should I Do?

If unexpected circumstances affect your ability to complete an assessment, follow these steps:

1. Check whether your situation may qualify
   Special Consideration may apply if circumstances were unexpected and beyond your control, such as illness, emergencies, or bereavement.

2. Prepare your supporting evidence
   Applications must include appropriate documentation (for example medical certificates or other supporting evidence).

3. Submit your application
   Applications should normally be submitted on or before the assessment due date.

Assignment Extensions

Ikon does not grant assignment extensions directly.

If unforeseen circumstances affect your ability to complete an assessment, you should apply for Special Consideration.

Ongoing Circumstances

If your circumstances are ongoing or long-term, it may be more appropriate to apply for Reasonable Adjustment, which provides ongoing support for students whose circumstances affect their studies over a longer period.
