What Happens if I’m Not Meeting Academic Progress Requirements?

If you do not meet Ikon’s academic progress requirements—by failing more than half of your subjects in two consecutive study periods or failing the same subject three times—you may be classified as not meeting academic progress standards. Ikon will contact you, provide written notice, and offer support before any formal action. You have 20 business days to appeal a decision before any enrolment cancellation occurs.

Overview

Ikon wants every student to succeed. When results show continuing difficulties, you’ll be contacted and encouraged to work with the Student Experience Team to address barriers affecting your study.

What happens next

  1. Written notification – Ikon will advise you in writing that you are at risk of unsatisfactory progress and explain your options.
  2. Support and Academic Improvement Plan – You’ll be invited to meet with the Student Experience Team and/or your lecturer to develop a plan for improvement (e.g., study skills sessions, timetabling adjustments, wellbeing support).
  3. Continued unsatisfactory progress – If performance does not improve over two study periods, Ikon may issue an official notice indicating its intention to report/cancel your enrolment. You’ll have 20 business days to appeal under the Grievance & Appeals Policy.
  4. International students – If the appeal period lapses or the appeal is unsuccessful, Ikon must report the outcome to the Department of Home Affairs through PRISMS.

Important notes

  • Contact the Student Experience Team as soon as you receive a progress notice.
  • You can continue studying while your appeal is under review.
  • Ikon will confirm all decisions in writing and offer support throughout the process.
