If you have a health condition, disability, or personal circumstance that affects your ability to study, you may be eligible for a Reasonable Adjustment. This support ensures equal opportunity by adjusting learning materials, environments, teaching methods, or assessments—without changing course standards. You can apply at any time during your studies. Understanding what to include and providing valid supporting evidence helps your request be reviewed quickly and fairly under Ikon’s Reasonable Adjustment Policy.
What is a Reasonable Adjustment?
A Reasonable Adjustment is a change made to the learning environment, teaching method, or assessment conditions to help you participate fully in your studies.
Examples include:
- Extra time or a separate room for assessments
- Accessible learning formats (large print, captions, or digital alternatives)
- Modified assessment methods
- Assistive technology or ergonomic support
- Flexible attendance or participation arrangements
These adjustments do not lower academic standards or alter course learning outcomes.
When to Apply
You can apply for a Reasonable Adjustment:
- During enrolment, if you already know you’ll need additional support.
- Any time during your studies, if new circumstances arise that impact your ability to learn or complete assessments.
If your situation changes, notify the Academic Services Team so your learning plan can be updated.
How to Apply
-
Complete the online Request for Reasonable Adjustment Form.
You can find this form in the Student Experience Help Centre. - Attach supporting evidence from a qualified professional (e.g., doctor, psychologist, counsellor, or specialist).
- The document must clearly describe how your condition or circumstance impacts your ability to study or complete assessments.

- The Academic Services Team will review your submission for completeness and may contact you—or, where appropriate, consult with relevant professionals—to clarify your needs.
- If your application is approved, an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) will be created.
This plan outlines the approved adjustments recommended by your practitioner and will be shared with your lecturers to support your learning. -
The ILP will be reviewed annually or when your circumstances change to ensure ongoing suitability.
Decision and Review Process
- Each request is assessed on a case-by-case basis through a consultative process involving the Head of School or delegate.
- Decisions consider:
- The nature and impact of your circumstances
- Academic standards and course requirements
- Practicality, benefits, and potential disadvantages of the adjustment
- Any associated costs or limitations
Approved plans are reviewed annually or earlier if your needs change.
Ikon is not required to make adjustments that cause unjustifiable hardship or where a student chooses not to disclose an additional need.
