This page will guide you through the key steps to get started and help you feel prepared for your studies.

Step 1: Register for Orientation

Orientation is designed to set you up for success.

For international students on a student visa, attendance is compulsory.

You’ll learn about:

  • Your course and academic expectations
  • Key systems (Student Email, Student Portal, Learner App, Canvas & More)
  • Support services available to you

If you’re unable to attend, please contact the Student Experience Team as soon as possible by submitting a Request.

Step 2: Activate Your Student Email

Your Ikon student email (StudentIDNumber@student.ikon.edu.au) is our primary way of communicating with you. It is essential that you check your student email on a regular basis.

You will receive:

  • Important announcements and updates
  • Timetable and enrolment information
  • Support and service communication

What to do:

  • Activate your account using the login details sent to your personal email
  • Check your inbox regularly
  • If you haven’t received your details, check your junk/spam folder

Step 3: Access your Student Portal

Your Student Portal is your central hub for student information and services.

Through the portal, you can:

  • View your study information
  • Access important resources such as Canvas, Microsoft 365 and your Student Email
  • Stay up to date with student life news and support services
  • Log and track your enquiries to our Student Experience team

You can log in using your Ikon student email details. Please ensure your student email is activated first.

Step 4: Access the Learner App

Using the Learner App, you can:

  • Update your personal details
  • View your enrolments and timetable
  • Find lecturer information
  • Check your attendance

How to access:

  • Login to Student Portal > Learner App
  • Use the separate login details provided in your welcome email
  • Watch the Learner App navigation guide to get familiar

Step 5: Keep Your Contact Details Up to Date

Staying connected is important - we use your contact details to share key updates about your studies, enrolment, and support services.

Please make sure the following details are always current:

  • Your Australian contact phone number and personal email address
  • Your current Australian residential address
  • Your emergency contact (must be based in Australia)

If any of your details change, please update them via the Learner App as soon as possible.

Important for International Students

As part of your student visa requirements (Condition 8533), you must notify Ikon within 7 days of:

  • Arriving in Australia with your residential address, and
  • Any changes to your residential address during your studies

Step 6: View Your Timetable

Once you have set up your Learner App, follow the steps in View my timetable to view your timetable.

Need to change your timetable?

We understand that your timetable may not always align with your personal commitments. You may submit a Timetable Change Request, which will be assessed based on availability and eligibility.

The timetable change request period

 You can only request a timetable change through the form below, for a limited time.

What changes can I request?

YOU CAN REQUEST TO

YOU CANNOT REQUEST CHANGES TO

  • Change class day
  • Change class time
  • Change delivery mode
    (online ↔ on-campus)
  • Your home campus
  • Your enrolled subjects
  • Classes not listed on the form

How requests are assessed 

  • class availability
  • Processed on a first-come, first-served basis
  • Requests may be declined if:
    • The class is full
    • The change causes a clash with another subject
    • It would breach online study limits (for international students)

Important Information:

  • If requesting multiple changes, all changes must be possible, otherwise the request will be declined
  • Only one submission per student is allowed
  • Once processed, your timetable is considered final
  • International students:
    • You must stay within the 30% online study limit
    • You must have at least one on-campus class per trimester
  • Outcomes will be sent to your Ikon student email.

What happens next?

Due to the high volume of requests during this period:

  • Please allow time for your request to be reviewed
  • Your request may be placed on hold or waitlisted while we review availability across classes
  • All outcomes will be released by
    • First Submission Period: The Friday before the trimester starts
    • Second Submission Period: The Friday of Week 2

Step 7: Access Canvas (Learning Management System)

Canvas is where you will access your learning materials, participate in class activities, interact with your lecturers and peers, and submit your assessments

When will you get access?

  • Within 3 business days after your enrolment is finalised 
  • Usually by the end of Orientation Week 

How to get started:

  • Login to your Student Portal > Canvas
  • Use the same login details as your Ikon student email
  • Make sure your student email account is activated before logging in

Step 8: Plan Your Trimester 

Your Academic Calendar is your go-to guide for all the key dates throughout your studies at Ikon.

To help you stay on track, it includes important milestones such as start datescensus dates (for domestic students), and assessment periods

Step 9: Get Your Student ID Card 

Your student ID card:

  • Identifies you as an Ikon student
  • May be required for campus access and services
