At Ikon, students must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and understanding expected at their qualification level to achieve success in their course. This is reflected by achieving a passing grade in each subject and demonstrating attainment of course learning outcomes.
A student may be identified as making unsatisfactory academic progress if they:
- Fail to successfully complete 50% or more of their enrolled credit points in a trimester.
- Fail a core or compulsory subject.
- Fail the same subject/unit twice.
- Fail to re-enrol after an approved study break.
- Withdraw from the same subject more than twice.
- Do not undertake an enrolment load sufficient to complete the course within the maximum allowable timeframe.
- Fail to meet compulsory course requirements (e.g., placements).
- Do not successfully complete all core course subjects.
Additionally, students may be deemed “at risk” of unsatisfactory progress if they:
- Fail their first assessment task in a trimester.
- Do not complete the first assessments for a subject without approved Special Consideration.
- Exhibit indicators such as poor attendance, lack of engagement, and low grades in assessments, which may signal that a student requires additional support.
Support and Intervention Strategies
Ikon proactively identifies students requiring support as early as possible. Students who are at risk of unsatisfactory academic progress receive alert notifications, and an academic performance improvement plan may be implemented. This plan includes specific academic support measures to assist the student in improving their performance. Failure to improve academic progress may lead to further intervention, including a notice of intention to cancel enrolment, with students having 20 working days to appeal the decision.
Important Information for International Students
International students must meet course progression requirements as part of their visa conditions. Failure to do so may result in notification to the Department of Home Affairs and visa cancellation.
Ikon provides various academic and non-academic support services, including access to academic learning support, student consultation, counselling services, and placement support to assist students in successfully completing their studies.
